Silahtarağa Archive

Silahtarağa Archive, located in the Energy Museum on santralistanbul Campus of İstanbul Bilgi University, serves as a significant repository of Istanbul's urban history and industrial heritage with the materials inherited from Silahtarağa Power Plant. Silahtarağa contains a comprehensive collection of approximately two million documents in total, with the predominance of architectural and technical drawings as well as correspondences, magazines, reports, photographs written in mainly Ottoman Turkish, French, German, and English.

Documents that have been classified since 2018 have been divided into 41 categories so far, and work on them continues. Reflecting Istanbul's special position in the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Türkiye, documents in Silahtarağa Archive provides the opportunity to investigate the city's modernization, urbanization, capital transformation, and industrialization processes on sociological, economic, and ecological levels.

Silahtarağa Archive works in coordination with İstanbul Bilgi University Urban Research Application and Research Center.
