
Silahtarağa Archives
Silahtarağa Archive houses the document collection of Silahtarağa Power Plant, which illuminated Istanbul from 1911, when it was founded, until 1983, when it ceased its operations. Silahtarağa Power Plant is one of the most important industrial heritages passed down from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Türkiye. As the historical archive of the power plant, Silahtarağa Archive contains two million documents under 41 different categories.
Documents in Silahtarağa Archive provides the opportunity to examine Istanbul's modernization, urbanization, industrialization, and capital transition process over a period of 100 years, as well as the transformation of its social life and natural environment at sociological, economic and ecological levels. The documents in Silahtarağa Archive are periodically updated with completed classification procedures.
