Documents
In 1935, correspondence began on the project, which was completed between 1939 and 1940, and the reports, correspondence and 32 photographs of the implementation of the project between Sarayburnu-Salacak, Tarabya-Beykoz and Naletburnu-Beykoz-Serviburnu are in the Silahtarağa Archive collection with detailed explanations.
This series of documents is a detailed report of the project to extend the distribution of electricity between the European and Anatolian sides and to increase the safety of the distribution networks on both sides of the Bosphorus with submarine electric cables laid on the Sarayburnu-Salacak, Tarabya-Beykoz and Naletburnu-Beykoz-Serviburnu lines.
The documents begin with a report on the installation of submarine cables between Sarayburnu-Salacak, Tarabya-Beykoz and Naletburnu-Beykoz-Serviburnu, which took place between 19/06/1940 and 22/07/1940. It proceeds with the plans regarding the use of the idle cables ordered in 1935 and the procurement of new ones. This is followed with the plans and the estimated course of the project between the end of 1939 and in 1940, and also includes the correspondence between the Technical Department Head and the General Directorate on the matter. Later, the summary of the submarine cable order in table form, the site plan prepared to be put on the nautical charts, and the New High Voltage Underwater Submarine Project to be prepared by the IETT General Directorate is detailed. The document also includes a map prepared in French regarding the Status of the Electric Cable and 32 photographs (with explanations) taken during the implementation of the project.
The originals of the document series are preserved in Silahtarağa Archive with the code R.3189.
The report is translated from Turkish to English by Catherine Mary Campion Işık.
